So, what did I miss?

I want to apologize for being gone so long. This whole moving thing has been very drawn out and stressful for me and (beyond not having my desk such that I couldn’t write) I just didn’t have the mental capacity to do anything for the website. I’ve got a video or two that’s still being worked on and they’ll be posted soon, but I know I’m well past the time I’d normally have shared something from the show. For now, at least, I figured I’d keep making the posts as normal and just share the footage whenever it (and I’m) ready.

Anyways, I’ve been gone for a bit, haven’t I? It’s gone by so quickly that I didn’t initially realize, as I sat down to write this one, that I’ve missed two of my normal posts! I feel like, since my last blog post, a lot has happened, so let’s go through some stuff!

What’s been going on at GHPR?

I hate to say it, but we’ve missed some dates for investigations, general research, and some show stuff.

We had our only full investigatory trip scheduled for that house call that we’d been working on and ended up having to cancel that one due to illness. Moving interfered with our filming schedule - we’d had an Estes session planned for a while (this was the one replacing what we had originally intended to do during that camping trip last month) (1) and there was just no way I was going to be able to make that one. Moving took a lot more out of me (and took a lot longer) than I’d expected it would.

We’re in the process of trying to reschedule all that, but we’re down a guy at the moment (who’s currently on vacation). For that Estes session, it’s really important that we have the same three members (and only those same three members) who were present for our UFO encounter last summer. I promise, it’ll make sense why when you see the show.

On the topic of the haunted doll we received a few weeks ago, I haven’t started any formal kind of investigation yet. I have, however, been keeping an eye on it and trying to be around it whenever possible just to get a feel for whether or not I can expect anything from it. As of yet, I haven’t noted anything truly strange that seems to emanate in one way or another from said doll. It seems that most haunted objects, as other researchers have noted in the past, don’t always “act out” for everyone. Maybe I’m just not treating it like it’s haunted. Either way, I’ve yet to have an encounter with it.

Also, new stickers coming soon!

Our “final” filming day is now scheduled for 7/3. I’m absolutely certain at this point that we’ll find ourselves still filming a bit after that (mostly just picking up a handful of interviews and some bonus stuff). 7/3 is kind of the end of the road, though. It marks almost a year since we started this project and so we’re returning to that original location and the original experiment a changed team with different opinions, different viewpoints, and a junkload of new equipment.

We’re working on investigating something that’s always interested me. I know the original witnesses of the creature call it the White Thang but, given that there’s already two other White Thang’s, I’ve taken to calling it the Three Caves Creature (for my full up write up on the entity, check out one of my earlier posts). I’m working on getting us a permit to explore some of the caves in the area it was sighted in but it may be a while before we can move forward with this one.

Following the success of the kickstarter, I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be a guest on a paranormal radio show sometime in August! The Church of Mabus (hosted by author Jeffery Pritchett), a show that’s part of the United Public Radio family based out of New Orleans, has asked me to record an episode with them talking about GHPR, Signal & Noise, and the HSV Para Project.

We’re headed for exciting times!

What have we missed in paranormal news?

I know it’s not exactly local, but there were a series of sightings that really got my attention out west. If I’m not mistaken, all of these took place in and around Humboldt County, CA. All of the reports that I’m aware of were shared on Reddit on one or more of the various “humanoid encounter” subreddits.

Witnesses reported seeing small, orange humanoids — almost gnome like in appearance. The initial post (in which the reporting party claimed to see two of them, well, copulating) garnered a good bit of attention and led to others from the area sharing their own “oompa-loompa” encounters. They seem to be mischievous little guys, reportedly throwing rocks at those who’d seen them. I’ve actually wanted to speak about these guys for a while, I just don’t think there’s enough there to write a whole post about.

As always, it seems that UFO related news is where the most movement seems to be happening.

Dan Farah is supposedly in the process of releasing (or trying to release) a documentary that he’s made called “The Age of Disclosure”. The film was initially aired at SXSW this past March and allegedly received some very enthusiastic reactions (given that I’ve heard it’s a talking head style documentary, this could mean it contains something pretty exciting). Farah claims that, through speaking with the current and former government officials that he interviewed in the course of making the film, he was told that the federal government intends to use “The Age of Disclosure” as part of their official announcement concerning the reality of UFO’s and extraterrestrial visitation. I really don’t buy that. Since its premiere, the film has been unable to find a distributor or streaming service willing to host it and a handful of reviews have come out calling it “middling at best”. For the more conspiracy minded it’s very tempting to say that this is some kind of a psy-op to keep attention off of it and make certain that most people don’t see it, but I’d caution against that train of thought. It’s probably a movie made by a true believer for true believers and just doesn’t have a lot of commercial or mass appeal.

Talking about mass appeal: Steven Spielberg is supposedly working on a new project he’s currently called “Disclosure”.

A supposed “UFO” was recovered in Colombia. Currently being called the Buga Sphere, the object has garnered a lot of attention from UFO fans across the world. Below is an image of the object.

There’s a semi-viral video going around showing the object (or at least something similar) mid-flight, but I can’t find a shareable copy of said video that isn’t either in a format unsupported by my website or attached to a twenty minute long talking head from somebody claiming this is definitive proof of ET-influence.

What’s important to note is that the object is being investigated by Jaime Maussan, the same guy who’s leading the foray (at least from the public’s point of view) in examining those peruvian mummies I wrote about a few weeks back. Thus far they’ve x-rayed the object (it’s just a metal sphere) and held it under a $20 amazon branded usb-microscope. The group notably mistook the reflection of the microsopes optical piece as some tiny detail on the exterior of the sphere and has yet to correct their earlier statement. I should clarify: I don’t think these are unintelligent people, they just might be a little too eager to find evidence of what they believe.

Onto some local news!

On other sites, I’ve seen at least three accounts of a dogman like creature in the Guntersville area.

This type of creature has been sighted in the US for decades, although they’ve become more popular (and more common) in recent years. You can probably trace these back to the Beast of Bray Road (in Winconsin) and the Michigan Dog-man (where the name comes from; sightings in MI go back to the late 19th century!). In both of those cases, reports describe a six to seven foot tall hairy-hominid with a dog or wolf like face, blue or amber eyes, and being capable of walking on its hind legs for extended periods of time. In the case of the Michigan Dog-man, a local radio DJ claims to be the source of the legend (he says he made it up based on common werewolf folklore), but that doesn’t really matter I think. At this point, the cat’s out of the bag and dogmen have infiltrated our collective subconscious.

Creatures like the Michigan Dog-man are sighted on a regular basis now. If you know me, and know how I think about this kind of stuff, you’d know that I think that’s all it takes. Whether it was ever real, it is now - at least as a thoughtform. As I’ve said in the past on this website, “you’ve got a perfect storm to form an egregore”.

In March, a Guntersville local claimed to see a wolf-like face (with orange eyes) peering at him through a window in his rural home. This window? Seven or eight feet off the ground. Throughout the day that preceded the encounter, he’d noted strange noises in the woods around his property.

In late April or early May, another Guntersville native claimed that his dog was “going crazy” about something outside. He took her out and, suddenly, the woods around them became eerily still. They didn’t see it as much as they heard it: something large that obviously turned to them and started growling “… and the growl turned into a roar that went through me.” The dog froze, they ran home, and they’ve heard strange howling in the woods since.

Maybe I’m a little late to the party here, in reporting on these types of encounters, but it definitely seems like there’s something going on here. You can argue the same kinds of misidentification that people argue for bigfoot sightings, but one way or another, I don’t think think these types of entities are going away any time soon. I love to share the video below whenever I get to talking about this particular topic. The video comes from a facebook live in Florida. I’ve seen attempts to debunk it but it’s a tough one to pick apart given that the video was originally broadcast live. The actual sighting happens just after the one minute mark.

General Stuff

I’ve been receiving a lot of emails recently from people who want to come on investigations with us. I’d bring you all if I could, I just can’t. I love to talk with people who have had encounters or people who feel the same drive to live in the paranormal like I do and, for that reason, I’m trying to do more outreach related stuff (like the seminar I held last November). I just can’t take everyone who wants to come with me like I used to try and do.

Mainly, this is a safety thing. As it turns out caves, old houses, and remote locations in general just aren’t the safest places to be. Maybe someday GHPR will spin out a bit and we’ll have a group set up somewhere that we can host regular investigations that anyone who wants to join can come along for. For the time being, though, I can’t offer too much on that front and I sincerely apologize for that.

Don’t stop emailing me, though! I want to hear about your encounters and your points of view! I might not be able to bring you on an investigation with me, but that doesn’t mean we can’t explore this kind of stuff together!

Well, I think that’s about it but, if I do think of anything else, I’ll post about it later.

Sorry I was gone for so long! Now that things have settled back down I’ve slipped back into my normal content schedule so everything’s going to be back on track.

Stay weird!

-Scott

(1) I’m going to talk about exactly what happened on that camping trip and why I consider it a “failed” trip but I think that’s a story I’m going to save for the show. Well, either that or the podcast. I swear, by the way, (and I know I haven’t spoken about it in a while) but that podcast is still coming. It’s kind of a companion piece for the show so you’ll be seeing them around the same time.
